Luella, Cruella and Stella
15 May 2006
Luella Bartley, she’s totally Target, and this month, she’s totally Vogue.
In fact, she’s so New Hot she makes Isaac look like one of the daggy furry pooches for whom he designs doggy accoutrements.
And if you’re thinking, “Cripes, Tildy is really into Target,” you’re wrong! Just because I like to comment on Target’s designers and their wears, doesn’t mean I shop there -heavens no! (Rarely, and that’s hardly ever.)
Remember, Bloggers, I was a personal shopper for Nordstrom. I used to be all about fashion 24/7. Now I just like to periodically remark on fashion.
I do like Luella. It’s her name. It does of course recall, Cruella (from 101 Dalmatians), but that’s just because Luella and Cruella rhyme. There’s no fashion connection whatsoever, obviously. Glenn Close played Cruella and we don’t associate Glenn with fashion, like we do Luella, who is fast moving in on Stella (which also rhymes with Cruella and Luella), as London’s queen of clothing cool.
Stella is very high-end so we’ll never see the McCartney girl’s label discounted down for Target. That’s what happens when you have a dad like Paul: you’re almost royalty and royalty doesn’t correlate with Target.
Well, that might not be true, because there isn’t any royalty in the U.S. and Target isn’t in Europe so we don’t know, in fact, if Royalty would shop at Target.
Wonder where Princess Di shopped for her quality-discounted stuff? (We do know that if the Duchess Fergie runs short on cash, she’d jump at the op to do some advertising for Target.)
Not sure that Princess Di would’ve been into Luella’s label, it’s a bit too hip à la neat-n-tidy punk. She would’ve loved Isaac though, but that’s a guess, because I mean she was very tight with Elton so I’m just assuming by virtue of the sexuality issue here that she would have appreciated Isaac and his label. (Probably not the Isaac for Target label because of course, she could’ve afforded so much more than that).
Luella, like Stella is a mum with a young son. These girls have more than just rhyming names, a home-city, and a fashion label in common. They’re 30-something, they’re famous (Vogue loves to feature them) and they’re friends!
Gawd, they might as well be sisters. But the big difference: A Stella summer frock, about $1000, a Luella summer frock about $30.
Hmm, maybe I’ll take that back about “rarely” shopping at Target.
