Release Your Inner Dove
31 July 2006
It’s August tomorrow and that means it’s time to talk fall fashion trends.
This year the seasonal trend is all about too much emphasis on your thighs and bum. Yep, stovepipe pants and leggings are back!
“Retire your flared pants and buy funky knitted leggings,” I read in Elle.
Translated: Toss out the one thing that is incredibly flattering on your lower body and instead, invest in the one garment designed to afford your legs the tree trunk-look.
If you’re the sort of girl that is considered thinspirational to the rest of us, go ahead enjoy the extra padding, wear stovepipes. In fact, why not try extreme over-emphasis and wear chunky wool leggings on top of your drainpipes! (Ooops, stovepipes.)
Everyone else, listen to me: keep your flared pants!
I suppose what I’m really saying is that despite that we girls love fashion mags, because of the glossy pics, makeup tips, celeb goss, and the occasional book review, the youthful fashion wisdom from the assistant to the associate editor’s desk is often NOT helpful.
No doubt the raison d’etre for the new season fashion tips is to aid readers in releasing their inner supermodel.
But average Elle, Vogue, Cosmo et al readers are more like me: Dove model-types wishing fashion editors would CampaignForRealBeauty.com and flared pants — regardless of the season.
