Date, Step Aside
5 March 2007
It seems the paparazzi have a way with words, not just cameras.
Apparently, in order for freelance photographers to snap shots of celebrities independent of their non-celebrity escorts, it is not uncommon for them to sing out,
“Date, step aside!”
Despite the tactless pragmatism of that paparazzism, I think there is a lesson in this for all dating girls:
If the occasion calls for it, be direct, be blunt and be bold.
Yes we’re socialized to be the sensitive and receptive sex such that when we’re frank and forthright we imagine others will think poorly of our behavior.
But the good news is in spite of our conditioning, there comes a point in one’s maturation when the perceived thoughts of others hold less weight.
Or to put it “bluntly,” mature girls no longer give a shit about what others think.
Moreover, a no-nonsense honest approach to dating (and life!), though it might take some practice at first, is refreshing because everyone knows exactly where you stand.
With this in mind, if you’re someone who feels in need of practicing, when next you go out with your date and he motions for his Rottweiler to come too try this,
“Dog, step aside!”
Perhaps your date is divorced with small children and his preference is to stay in and eat family-style, in which case you could try,
“Kids, step aside!”
Maybe the kids are teens and they have teen friends who love to come over and participate in the family-style dinners at your date’s house.
“Adolescents, step aside!”
If your date has dogs and small kids and adolescents, and the adolescents have teen friends who love to bring their dogs over to romp with your date’s dogs and small kids, and still your date prefers to eat in family-style …
At that point, tell me you’d be practiced and emboldened to the degree that your inner paparazzi would have no trouble delivering the grand finale,
“Date, I’m stepping aside, for good!”
