Andy Garcia is Getting Fat
12 June 2007
In a recent interview Aussie actress, Cate Blanchett, referred to the culture of plastic surgery as “absolutely bizarre.”
With her hands around her eyes she said, “… all you see are the little pinholes of terror.”
I saw Ellen Barkin in Ocean’s 13 last week and due to the absence of close ups, I couldn’t see any pinholes, but at fifty-three and in uber-perfect shape, Ellen evidently sticks to a healthy diet and exercise program.
Oh, and let’s not forget her six-member beauty-support team that probably includes a top dermatologist, personal trainer and chef, and the best placcie surgeons, et al.
Gawd, do I sound like a catty, jealous person who’s struggling to arrest sagging body parts and pursing unfashionably thin lips that scream, “botox me, botox me!”
Actually, I’m not jealous, even if the “sagging bod” bit is true.
I’m simply commenting on how hard boomer girls work at staying slim, trim, youthful and beautiful while fellas, like Ellen’s costar and contemporary, Andy Garcia, carry extra pounds unselfconsciously.
Yep, Andy Garcia is getting fat!
And at forty-four, Ocean’s 13 star, Brad Pit, has really bad under-eye wrinkles - really bad by Hollywood standards.
It’s true! But you don’t see tabloid pics and the accompanying headlines focusing on the physical flaws of aging blokes like they do the women.
I mean where are the candid shots of Andy on vacation at the beach in swimming togs, burgeoning gut overflowing, caught eating a Big Mac and fries, huh?
And what about a headline along lines of “Stress of Parenting Gives Brad Bad Bags,” I’ve yet to see it!
Without the entertainment media obsessing over their spreading girth or aging face, obviously Andy feels no pressure to hire a calorie-counting chef and personal trainer nor Brad to sport “pinholes of terror.”
The blokes can get fat and wrinkly, but the girls? As Cate suggested - and as Ellen’s uber shape would imply - they buy into the culture of Nip/Tuck.
How bizarre is that?
Well, I haven’t seen the show, but it has won best television series the last two years - I guess its subject matter appeals to the masses.
